Cam & Tom's Sailing Blog

Thu 17 May

I woke up, having had a terrible nights sleep to find Camilla awake already. Seems she’d had the same nightmares as me. We went for breakfast then the first order of duty was to try to get a hold of Seajet; the company that makes the primer.

I managed to get a technician on the phone. He was a Dutch guy on his way to work speaking from his car, and he listened attentively to my story about how we completely forgot to mix the hardener (duh!). To my utter relief he told me that it wouldn’t be a problem as what’s lurking at the bottom of the can is 95% pigment meaning the primer would be fine. I was so happy to hear this, I wanted to crawl through the phone and give the man a hug. It means we don’t have to sand down the hull again! It also means that all of a sudden we are back on our original timeline, and we should go back into the water tomorrow. I spent most of the day putting primer on the small patches where the stands used to be, and trying to figure out the plumbing for the water maker. It’s really annoying that pipes (and seacocks!) are measured in inches, and hose and everything else is measured in millimetres. I cycled all over Barcelona to get the right parts to connect our 3/8 inches hose to the 3/4 inches seacock, and failed miserably. Nobody seems to stock stuff for 3/8 inches, which is really quite small. Oh well, I guess Amazon will have to come to the rescue again!

We’ve just had dinner, and a few celebratory drinks – can you guess what we were discussing? Camilla’s Dad and Sue are visiting is this weekend, and Bini is due back in the water. So relieved!
