We had a lovely weekend with my Dad and Sue in Barcelona, and today (a public holiday in Spain) we went to meet them for an early breakfast before they flew home to Periana (it’s about an hour north of Malaga in Southern Spain). Being back living on the boat feels so good too (as does waking up to these gorgeous sunrises); we got completely fed up of hotels and carting our crap backwards and forwards!
We walked back to the boat and Tom carried on installing the water maker. He’s made this cool wooden bracket thing which secures the pre-filter it in the cupboard beneath the sink. He was a bit cagey when I asked where he found the wood, turns out he scavenged it from a heap someone had dumped on the other side of the railway tracks. As the saying goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. Annoyingly we don’t have the right connector sizes for the hoses so we spent hours on the internet trying to find which ones we needed, and to see if they could be shipped in the next few days. We’ve ordered a bunch, let’s see what we can make of them.
Late afternoon I gave the boat a good clean, although you wouldn’t have guessed by looking at it – it still looks absolutely filthy! I got a little obsessed and started hand scrubbing areas with a tiny sponge; no doubt to the amusement of our neighbours who must think I’ve got OCD. Dried on anti fouling is a bitch to remove too (a little asetone does the trick) and I think our grubby footprints are forever going to imprinted on the anchor locker.
Tomorrow I’m back to work for my final 4 days in the office – feels very surreal! It’s going to be quite the transition after 20 years of working and I have a feeling it’s going to take some getting used to. Bit nervous about it to be honest, but it’s all part of the journey.
