After having spent all day yesterday fretting about the consequences of leaving Schibsted, after a decent night sleep I felt good again this morning. Being able now to be involved in getting the boat ready is really bringing the trip to life. More than just being a plan and something I talk about, I’m working on making it become a reality.
Today we managed to actually finish a couple of jobs, progress! After lunch Tom battled the last hoses onto the water maker and connected the power. We’ll need to get out of the marina to see if it’s working as the cleanness of the water in here leaves much to be desired. We’ll do that next week some time.
We also got the windlass fitted again (it’s the motor thing which sets down and pulls up the anchor). For jobs like this, sometimes being small has its advantages as it means you can squeeze into small spaces. This contortion involved getting into the anchor locker to screw in 3 cable glands through with the power cables pass into the boat.
The whole thing has been a bit of a drama, and it’s taken us about 6 weeks to get to this point (Tom’s going to write a blog post) so we had a nervous few minutes hoping we’d connected the right cables and that we’d not damaged it whilst servicing and changing the transmission oil. Thankfully it puuuuuured back into life. Phew!
In the evening we went for a few drinks with Paul and Victoria who live a few boats down, and got some good tips on how to provision the boat. So long as we have water, beer, wine pasta and tomato sauce we should be good. ? It was weird too as all evening in my subconscious I was thinking, “I wonder what meetings I’ve got on week, really ought to check the calendar”. Waking up tomorrow and not having to go to work is going to be……bliss ❤
