After Tom’s late night cable routing endeavours we finally called it a night at about 0130. Whilst doing our teeth we noticed the water pump making a strange noise, almost like it wasn’t getting enough power. That turned out to be exactly the cause as our battery charger had packed up, and now the batteries charge was far too low. On the boat pretty much everything runs off the batteries, and like normal batteries they run out of charge. So when we’re in a marina we connect the 240v shore power and use the battery charger to keep them topped up. When we’re on the go the solar panels will take over that responsibility and running the engine does the trick too. Batteries can pack up altogether if they’re drained too low so we needed to fix the charger before going to bed.? After disconnecting pretty much everything Tom had connected we noticed a lose wire hanging out of the 240v box. With that re-connected the charger sprang back to life, and we finally got to bed at 0230.
This morning (late morning!) we got the bimini back from Carlos, and it was exactly what we wanted. He’d created two panels of sunbrella onto which we would attach the panels, then he’d attached velcro to them and the bimini so we could connect the two. Having them not directly connected to the bimini means we can easily stow it all away if it gets too windy. Excited about connecting them we headed back to the boat. Getting the velcro aligned was a right pain as they’re big, bendy and unwieldy so they kept gripping as we shuffled them into place. Annoying as that was, my fears about the velcro not being strong enough instantly disappeared! All we needed to do now was connect the cables, but they were 2cm too bloody short! A very frustrated Tom quickly found longer ones on Amazon Prime so fingers crossed they’ll arrive tomorrow. What did we do before next day deliveries?! Until then we needed to stow them away, so battle recommenced with the velcro.
As we couldn’t progress with that we finished marking the anchor rode and putting it plus the chain back in the locker on top of their little drain. Satisfying to have finished at least something today.
In the evening we headed into the city to collect Tom’s MRI results (all looking fine) and I got a haircut whilst he met with some friends for dinner.
