Wednesday started off a bit slow after we had a little too much to eat (and drink) on Tuesday night after our adventurous sail down from Soller to Alcudia.
In the morning we sat in the marina and came up with a plan for what to do with our day. Walk into into downtown Alcudia? Or do the sensible thing and take advantage of being in a marina, which would mean exciting things like taking showers and cleaning the boat. Decisions, decisions. 🙂
Since Alcudia is a bit of a tourist trap and we weren’t quite sure when we’d be in a marina again, we decided to do the sensible thing and give the boat a good clean. As often happens with us, what started off as a plan to do a quick rinse ended up being a two hour cleaning marathon. The boat was covered in this fine red Sahara sand that was kindly delivered by the thunderstorm we had a couple of nights before. It’sa pain to get off, but we found a new secret weapon. Deep down in our locker we found a bottle of “swarte strepen cleaner” from the Netherlands, and it made the boat look like new. Success!
It was getting rather late so we went for a nice long shower and left the marina to anchor in Alcudia bay. The bay is huge there were hardly any boats, and it felt really nice to be out in the open again after being cramped in between two boats in the marina.
On Thursday we woke up feeling much more energised. We got up early and decided to make the most of the morning and do a workout on the beach. There were quite a few runners and walkers out and we were quite the attraction with our yoga mats set out next to the dinghy. I also made a new friend who was a bit reluctant to return to his owners. We’ve always fancies a boat dog. 🙂
After a short, unsuccessful scavenge through the tourist infested maze that is Alcudia – we were looking for a portable inverter to charge the laptops from the cigarette lighter plug – we stopped for a quick drink in the local marina bar, charged laptops and set off for Polenca.
Getting out of Alcudia bay was pleasant enough, we had 15 knots on the nose but not much swell. That quickly changed once we were out in open water, as it was then we were hit by a 3 meter swell and a stiff breeze. We set sail and punched through the waves, but it really wasn’t the most the most pleasant of sails and it left us both feeling pretty sick.
Once we got into the bay of Polenca things quieted down a fair bit, and we anchored in 4 meters of water in a beautiful bay next to two of our friends whom we’d met in Badalona. We popped over for a few beers, and then headed back to our boat to enjoy dinner and a quiet evening on anchor.
Die Segelei scheint mir ja ziemlich stressig zu sein?
