This morning we got up, got ready and set off on our 35 mile, 7 hour trip from Pollença to Menorca. The forecast had changed a bit from the previous evening meaning we were predicted the 15 knot northerly winds later in the day, so around lunchtime as opposed to 10am. We motored for the first few hours then the wind go up so we got the sails out and set off on a fantastic beam reach almost all the way to the south westerly most tip of Menorca. We turned east to head along the south coast and with the wind now behind us we were able to sail all the way up to Son Saura, our anchorage for the night. We’d chosen the southern side of the island to hide from the strong northerly winds which were predicted for the evening.
As we motored into Son Saura we were blown away by how gorgeous it was. We were met by crystal clear turquoise water and two deserted beaches, stunning! We found a nice spot to anchor (7m of water over sand) and dived on the anchor to make sure it was properly dug in, in anticipation of the wind, which was predicted at an unsociable 2am.
It was then that out of nowhere, this ridiculous swell came rolling in from the south. It had us rocking so violently from side to side that cooking was almost impossible, the anti slip matting tried its best but couldn’t stop everything on the counter rolling around trying to smash itself to pieces. Red thai curry was eventually served, and we headed to bed and surprisingly, fell asleep quite quickly.
We’re finding the internet very patchy hence the equally patchy updates 😐
