Yesterday we set off at 11:00 and because there was no wind it got uncomfortably hot, so this morning to opted to leave earlier. By 06:30 we were on our way to Calvi, which (like yesterday) was about a 6 hour trip. The stunning coastline more than made up for the lack of wind, and we motored past mile after mile of lush green hills dotted with small villages. They’re annoyingly difficult to capture on camera so instead Tom snapped this of me. 🙂
On turning the corner Calvi came into view and true to Corsican style it’s old town complete with requisite castle was set high up on a hill. The bay is huge and anchored right in the middle was the big Clipper ship we’d seen in Bonafacio – the scene looked like something from an old war movie. How terrifying those time must have been!
We’d read in the pilot book that anchor too close to the town and you’ll hear “crap French rap music blaring out until [very precisely] 06:26 in the morning”. We didn’t much fancy that so we went further along. In the afternoon we walked into town, the route there took us along a quaint little railway track and through the sand dunes into the old town. It’s been another place which was well worth the visit, and it’s somewhere we’d never have thought to come to had we not have been traveling by boat.
