Thu 25 Jul and Fri 26 Jul – Still in Schinousa

Thursday

Where we’d anchored in hindsight wasn’t the best place. We were a safe distance from the rocks however the swell that was rolling in was bouncing off them and rebounding into us. The wind already was blowing 25 knots but by now we’re pretty used to anchoring in a stiff breeze so we found ourselves a less rolly spot and sat in the cockpit with our breakfast. As we were chatting, we both noticed that the couple from last night (who’d had problems getting their anchor to set) were drifting out to sea. We frantically whistled at them which thankfully they heard as they came up on deck, realised what was happening and picked up their anchor, which by now must have just been dangling free in the water.

It took the poor things no less than 10 attempts to get it to hold, with the other boats in the anchorage all trying to help. One couple were in their dinghy, doing what we weren’t sure but trying to lend a hand. Once everything had settled we went for a swim, and went over to have a look. No wonder they were having problems, the anchor was tiny and they had far too little chain out which meant that with every little nod of the bow the anchor was millimetres away from being pulled out of the sand. Luckily for them though, they stayed put.

Friday

After a run in the morning we took the drone to the little beach for a practice fly around. In the afternoon we walked to the main harbour for lunch and found the makings of a party. All the big boats were covered in flags, which we later found out was for a wedding. After a long hot walk back in the evening we were both exhausted! Too much sun and not enough water, so we had an early night.
