Wed 12 Jun to Fri 14 Jun – Palaia Epidavros

We dropped the hook in Palaia Epidavros. It’s a small town with a few tavernas and a town quay mostly taken up by charter boats. We were initially thinking to moor up to the quay as this would make the oil change we had on the todo list a bit simpler. However when we were having dinner overlooking the quay we saw how a rather substantial slop worked its way around the bay which had the boats rocking very uncomfortably. No thank you, we’d stay at anchor.

The days were getting really hot, so it was a perfect time to get the paddle boards out and explore the crystal clear waters around the bay. With one pumped up Camilla sat on the front while I paddled her around! After all that I needed a little rest 🙂

We managed a long walk too. Our first path was along the side of the bay. It started off beautifully paved but quickly turned into a rock climbing expedition. After half an hour and a thousand scratches later we turned back and continued around to the other bay which was literally deserted. There’s a sunken city there which looked quite fun to explore but we didn’t make it that far. We found a place to have a drink and some much needed water.

After dinner on Wednesday we were just commenting on the lack of wind when slowly it started to pick up, and the sky told of thunder. We went back to the boat where we sat as thankfully the storm passed to the side of us. The anchorage was packed that night so all hell would have broken loose if that’d ended up overhead!

The town had an extremely pleasant, relaxed and friendly vibe to it, so much so that we found ourselves eating out way more than we usually do – and that’s saying something! Our record was breakfast, coffee, lunch and dinner. There are always these competing two forces. On one hand, we want to be mindful of our budget, on the other hand though the tavernas are looking so nice, the food is good and it’s lovely watching the world go by. Choices, choices!

We managed to at least get our laundry done, which was just about time. I was literally running out of t-shirts to wear, and I leave the implications of that up to your imagination. 🙂
