Sat 15 Jun – Kilma Beach on Egina Island

After a few days in Epidavros it was time once again to pick up the hook and explore somewhere else. As our general direction is south and east, we picked a bay called “Kilma beach” as our next destination. The bay is beautiful with clear waters and surrounded by steep high hills. It is extremely popular with the locals, as evidenced by a beach bar blasting music into the bay above the heads of a lot of people stacked on sun beads.

There wasn’t much to do here but hang out, swim, and watch the boats taking long lines ashore. This technique that is very popular in Greece. Boats drop the anchor close to shore, and then reverse even closer, taking two long lines over the stern and tying up to rocks or trees. This stops the boats from swinging around, and means many more boats can squeeze into the tiny anchorages. We have two long lines for this purpose, but the crowds in this bay plus the wind shift in the forecast stopped us from trying this manoeuvre just yet.
